I have always been a fan of Chick-fil-A. I love that they serve high-quality fare and their service, is second to none. Every Saturday morning at 6:30am, I am at our local CFA picking up a Gallon of Unsweet Iced Tea. While I do love their Chicken Burritos, we normally don’t eat at CFA too too often. I’d say a handful of times a year but, other than that, that’s it. Last month, CFA came out with some menu changes – something they do very, very rarely. While none of the salads were of interest for me, I knew I wanted to try the Chargrilled Wrap. A fan of the previous wrap, I was looking forward to digging into A Whole New World.

I always liked the old Chargrilled Wrap from CFA but was shocked with the amount of calories in it. With the new wrap, this number has been greatly decreased due to the new wrap that is used and, by my estimation, that the wrap is much smaller. Last Friday night, we picked up CFA for dinner and I tried the wrap. I ordered this with the Honey Mustard Dressing but, it was not until I got home that I realized they forgot to give it to me. In a means of extreme hunger, I took these images with my phone in dull light so, my apologies now for the lack of clarity.

The interior of the wrap was the same as before – cut pieces of chargrilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. I find the chicken to be fine…nothing too good or too bad. In this wrap, it was a bit dry and the lack of Honey Mustard did not help. While I did use some of the Honey Mustard dipping sauce, the dressing certainly goes much better. I felt as if there was plenty of chicken in both sides of the wrap. The lettuce, tomatoes and cheese were good as always – fresh, crisp and tasty. As for the new wrap, it is now of the wheat variety and a little bit thicker. I found the flavor to be pretty lacking and the wrap to be extremely dry. While the wrap did indeed hold everything together, the dryness far outweighed any new benefits.

This wrap certainly seemed smaller to me than the previous wrap. Whether this is because I was starving or because it truly was, I cannot yet say. Either way, I was disappointed overall in this wrap. The wrap was always my go to and I’m not sure if that will be the case any longer. I indeed will try this again and ensure that I get the Honey Mustard Dressing. Perhaps that is all that was missing from moving this wrap from okay to great. CFA will continue serving me good food, great service and delicious tea. I, in return, will continue to visit A Whole New World.

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to receive the installation of Side Steps for my Jeep from PL. I was totally stoked about this as I would not have been able to get them on my own for quite a while. After we picked up my Jeep at lunch time, myself and my boss stopped off at Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch. This was indeed my first time actually eating at one of these locations and I was not sure what to expect. I will say, that I did not order a Smoothie. Silly, if you think about it. Go to a place with Smoothie in the name and not order one. But, lucky for me, we are proud owners of a VitaMix and I consume a whopping 48 ounces of smoothie goodness everyday. Smoothie aside, this was gearing up to be a Veggie New Lunch.

We arrived and were short on time. Having never been here before, I quickly scanned the menu to find an item that sounded good. I spotted the Southwest Chicken Salad and went with this. We waited only a few short minutes before our food was brough out. Once it was brought, I was presented with a somewhat small salad. This was okay with me because this was a weekday and this was lunch – my normal lunch consists of 1/2 cup beans, 1 serving carrots & 1 whole grain tortilla with tanini…so, anything is an upgrade. The bowl was full of lettuce and also had chicken rice, black beans, tomatoes and onions (though I asked for these to be left off), all served with containers of guacamole, salsa and dressing. I dumped on the salsa and guacamole, and began to eat.

The first thing I found was that the salad itself was very fresh. While I doubt the guacamole was made on site, it was quite good. Very fresh tasting and chunky enough to give it some character. While the salsa was nothing special, it provided the proper consistency to the salad. The beans and rice were there but, actually didn’t play too much of a part. I found most of the flavor to come from the guacamole and the salsa. As for the chicken, it was not my favorite. The pieces were few and far between, and tasted like they had been microwaved. Luckily, the other salad toppings and fillers helped the taste of the chicken greatly.

I had no problem finishing this salad and feeling full. No, I wasn’t stuffed but I was full enough to get me through to afternoon snack. If I return to Tropical Smoothie, I would probably try something else. It’s not that this wasn’t good its just that I wasn’t overly amazed by it. I do give props to Tropical Smoothie on providing some great flavor in the guacamole and salsa – both were above what I would have ever expected. If only the chicken was a bit better, I may be calling this my favorite new lunch. But, so is not the case, so, this will simply stay as a Veggie New Lunch.

I have never really been a big fan of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I have always preferred the sweet factor of Reese’s Pieces much, much more. Even with that, I do appreciate a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. There is nothing quite like that smooth chocolate coating and creamy peanut-esq flavor. A few weeks ago, I found Justin’s Organic Peanut Butter Cups at Target. I said, what the heck, let’s give them a try. After having them sit in the pantry for a week or two, it was finally time to try them out. Let’s just say, Nothing Beats Classic.

The packaging lists these as being Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. When I opened the package, the cups looked similar to Reese’s in size but, the color was definitely off. I was expecting a dark color – as these were dark chocolate – however, the color was much lighter. Almost like a gray-brown mix. I have had lots of organic chocolate and it is typically good. So was not the case with these. This did not taste like dark chocolate whatsoever. On top of that, I found the chocolate to by dry and extremely non-creamy. There really was no flavor at all from the chocolate outside…beside dryness.

As for the Peanut Butter inside, I bit into a dry dark circle of peanut butter. I have had Justin’s peanut butter before and find it to be quite tasty. Well, somewhere between the peanut butter line and the peanut butter cup line, this stuff took a detour. Dry, almost chunky in a way, this was so not satisfying. This dry peanut butter like substance, mixed with the dry flavorless chocolate did not produce a good product. After eating the first cup, I let the flavors sit in my mouth for a few moments. This maybe enabled me to tell what I was eating but, did not make me want to eat any more.

I did eat the second cup and found it to be just as bad as the first. I have had imitators of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup before and have found them all to fall short. So is the case with Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Dry chocolate mixed with a funky peanut butter like substance, provides an overall product of sub par candy. I would not purchase these ever ever again nor would I recommend these to anyone. Even if you like Organic and enjoy Justin’s Peanut Butter, simply Nothing Beats Classic.

I am not a fan of Asian food. At all. Well, besides sushi. But, for the most part, Asian food and me just don’t mix. I have tried a number of items and just find its not for me. Last month, we were meeting family for lunch at, what other than, an Asian place. Stir Crazy, located in Coconut Point, serves up Asian fare. In addition, they have a ‘Fresh Bar’ where you can select all the veggies you want and have them Stir-Fry it for you right then and there, with your choice of meat and rice. Obviously, this is what most people go for because, why not, its fun. I was totally not looking forward to this but, lucky for me, it ended up not being too bad. While this would not be my first place to pick, I was more than fine with my chance to Get Crazy.

I opted to get my stir fry without a meat choice. For my carb, I went with the Brown Rice. The server took our order than brought out our bowls. When you are ready, you go up to the veggie bar. I opted for a variety of veggies – I got baby corn, snow peas, carrots, squash, mushrooms, brocoli, spinach and green beans. For my sauce, I opted for the Peanut Sauce. Once I had this ready to go, I handed it over to be cooked. The chef cooked up my veggies and added the peanut sauce. Then, he added these to a plate with brown rice. I brought this back to our table – as it was completely steaming hot – and stirred it around to cool down.

I found the veggies to all be cooked nicely. My only beef with these was that the brocoli was still a little bit too raw for me. I’m not a fan of raw brocoli and this was pretty crispy. But, other than that, the rest of the veggies were really good. I found there to be a lot of peanut sauce on the bottom so, I mixed it around with the veggies and rice. Before doing this, I tried the rice and found it to be crazy dry and flavorless. Mixing the rice with the peanut sauce and veggies was the best option – this provided the rice with flavor and some moistness.

It is hard to really say much more than that. I thought all of the veggies were good, the sauce was not too sweet and the rice (once mixed up) was decent. Overall, this was a good lunch. I found that it did not overly fill me up but at the same time, I was not left wanting for me. I did not like the prices at all – it cost $45 for 3 of us at lunch. I might be cheap but, that is wayy too expensive. I certainly won’t go out of my way to visit Stir Crazy but, if I have to go again, I will get exactly the same thing. Asian food is not for me but I will take any chance I get to Get Crazy.

I am about to tell you about one of the worst overall dining experiences I have ever had. While I ate this food quite some time ago, it has taken until now for me to feel ready to tell you all about this. We decided, on a Friday night, to order pizza. One of our friends was coming over and the plan was to pick up the pizza and bring it home. Deciding to try something new, we opted for Moravela’s Pizza. Moravela’s is located on Livingston and Pine Ridge. I should have known from the fact that their menu was without prices, that this would be bad. Little did I know, or expect, that it would be this bad. All I can tell you is Stay Far, Far Away from Moravela’s Pizza.

I called and placed our order for 1 Cheese Pizza, 1 White Pizza, 6 Garlic Knots and 1 Slice of the Veggie Pizza. When I arrived to pick up the order, I also arrived to a price tag of $55. $55 for that. I’m not kidding. And these were really not gourmet pizzas by any means. After being in shock over the price, I stood and waited about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. The inside of the restaurant is very small and I was cramped at the counter. When my pizzas arrived, I opened the boxes. Well, I guess the chef forget that White Pizza does not have sauce. Yes, my White Pizza had sauce. As I told them that this was wrong, they took the pizza back and said 5 minutes.

Nearly 25 minutes later, my pizza was ready and correct. But now, mind you, the rest of my order was completely cold. There were no apologies, no discounts, no offers to warm everything back up. After waiting in the restaurant for nearly 40 minutes, I left and went home. Well, it only got worse once I got home. Still completely pissed about the price of the pizza, it was now time to eat. I started with a garlic knot. Or, at least, I attempted to. One bite and I wanted to spit this out. The knot was cold, tasted stale and was hard as a rock. There was no flavor whatsoever contained in this know. Disgusting.

The experience only got worse with the pizza. I had them add pineapple to my half of the cheese pizza. Even with this addition, the pizza sucked. First off, the crust was limp, soggy and completely flavorless. The tomato sauce and cheese – while visible – contained no flavors whatsoever. There were no flavors of even packaged sauce – literally it tasted like nothing. The lack of flavors, mixed with the horrible crust, created just a pathetic pizza experience. The pineapples were fine but, the rest of the pizza was a total disaster. Even as I continued to eat, the pizza did not get better. By far, this was the worst crust I have ever had on a pizza. And, the overall pizza, was the WORST PIZZA I HAVE EVER EATEN. A total and complete waste of calories.

No one else really cared for the pizza either. I didn’t have any of the white pizza but Taylor confirmed it was not that good. Mommy had the piece of Veggie Pizza and pretty much echoed everything I said. No joke, I was irritated and pissed about this for a few days to come. I kept going back to thinking that when she told me the price, I should have said nevermind. I can get pizza from a number of locations in Naples, for a far less price. Plus, they also feature better service and a great product. Thinking back now, this still really irritates me. Pizza should not cost that much. And, for whatever reason if it does, it better be the most amazing pizza ever. Moravela’s Pizza is none of that – lousy service, ridiculously high prices and disgusting pizza – are all that they are. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!!!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I love when people give me food to try and review for Grandma’s Backyard. There is almost nothing better when it comes to getting to try food products. On Tuesday, Yoko from work returned from Japan and brought with her some Japanese Kit Kat bars. She so graciously gave me a pack of each flavor she brought with her to try. I was totally stoked as soon as I got them and totally loved the boxes – nearly everything on them was in Japanese and the calories were in kcal…schwing. I brought them home and after dinner, it was time to try them. On behalf of one of Taylor’s friends Moms, this was some good ol’ Japanese Techno.

I decided to first try the variety of Strawberry. Thanks to my lack of Japanese, I only knew these were strawberry by the images on the box. Upon opening the box, I found individually packaged Kit Kat – 2 in each pack. I opened up a pack and found them to be a little bit smaller than the normal sized Kit Kat…more along the size of the Halloween variety. My first thought was that this was going to taste like some Strawberry Quik – the Kit Kat was that exact color. I was unsure if I should be expecting anything similar to the US Kit Kat and did not see any chocolate. Without thinking further, I bit right in.

Well, the flavor was indeed quite different. While not quite along the lines of Strawberry Quik, I could indeed taste the strawberry flavor. The exterior coating seemed to be white chocolate, heavily flavored with strawberry. The flavor was more intense when I first began to eat the piece and it seemed to lessen as I finished and swallowed it. The interior of the Kit Kat was your traditional wafer filling – delicious as always. However, I did not feel as if the Strawberry exterior really played well with the interior. It felt to me like two different pieces, forced to sit together and be friends. Sorry friends, it’s just not going to happen. I finished my piece but did not feel inclined to eat any more.

After cleansing my palate with some water, I decided it was time for the green tea variety. Looking at the box, I would have guessed this was a green smoothie flavor however, I was informed that it was indeed green tea. Going into this one, I had no idea what to expect. I find the flavor of green tea to be somewhat bitter and I could not imagine how this was going to play into the actual flavor of the Kit Kat. I loved the color of this thing – so classic pea soup green – it was awesome. I took a Brake and began to eat.

Right away, I liked this Kit Kat wayyy more. The flavor of the white chocolate was much more apparent and, as far as I could tell, there was no green tea. I guess it did have a little bit of a back taste – like something was mixing with the chocolate – but, it was not strong enough to allow me to figure out quite what it was. The crispy wafer paired much better with the pea soup green white chocolate. This was crispy, refreshing and just sweet enough. I loved this one and can totally see myself going back and eating the rest of the box. While not quite a US Kit Kat, this thing was awesome in its own sense.

So, lesson to be learned here – bring Nicki food to try and blog about. I love the fact that not only did Yoko bring me in something but, that something came all the way from Japan. I’m sure that I will end up eating the remainder of the Strawberry Kit Kat’s and perhaps the flavor will get better over time. For me, it just wasn’t there and I would have no reason to eat that over a traditional Kit Kat. But, I will say, the Green Tea Kit Kat is pretty awesome. Try it expecting not a US Kit Kat but, I Kit Kat from Japan and I’m sure you will love it. So, grab your Walkman, cassettes and Japanese Kit Kat’s and let’s listen to some Japanese Techno.

As everyone knows, I love Graeter’s Ice Cream. It is simply divine. One of the best things about going to Cincinnati – other than the Reds & Family – is Graeter’s. As much as I wish we had a Graeter’s in Naples, or somewhat near by, we do not. However, about a year or so ago we got another straight-from-Ohio Ice Cream Location. This is Handel’s. Located in Bonita, tucked right on the side of 41, this is somewhat of a Secret Garden. It took us over a year to finally try it. Why? Well, the fact that any time we drove by, it looked empty, was really a good part of it. But, as I have seen this on TV, and we had read good reviews, we decided to stop in and visit this Secret Garden.

We walked into a huge location. On one side was a self-serve froyo area and the other side, was the ice cream. All flavors are made in store on a daily basis. The interior of Handel’s was pleasant as were the staff that waited on us. After a quick review of the menu, I spotted the word ‘Buckeye’ and was set. I selected the Buckeye Ice Cream in a Waffle Cone. I opted for just the normal size but, let me tell you, this was not normal. The ice cream was 3 scoops out of the waffle cone. Woah Woah Woah – this was big.

I was really bummed that this ice cream was in a vanilla base. I much prefer ice cream in a chocolate base. I found that the base ice cream itself was extremely thick and creamy. The flavors were natural and spoke on their own. In addition to the vanilla flavors, there was a good amount of peanut butter flavor and swirls. While the swirls were not nearly as much as the peanut butter in Buckeye Blitz, they were quite pleasant and appreciated. Plus, this ice cream was loaded with buckeyes. Boy, do I love buckeyes. These were great – a smooth chocolate exterior with a creamy peanut butter interior. They were hard from being frozen but not too much to make them inedible. And, the waffle cone was great…by far one of the best waffle cones I have ever had. When you think and smell waffle cone, Handel’s kills it.

I did enjoy this ice cream and the waffle cone quite a bit. While I would have preferred a chocolate base ice cream, this stuff was still good. Mommy and Taylor also liked their ice cream and, as I mentioned, the service was great. In the short time that we were there, the place had a steady flow of people…and this was on a Sunday afternoon. It may have taken us quite some time to visit but, I can guarantee it will not be this long until we visit again. No, Handel’s is no Graeter’s and their Buckeye ice cream is not comparable to Buckeye Blitz. However, Handel’s features some fabulous creamy ice cream, great flavors and killer waffle cones. Do yourself a flavor and visit this Secret Garden.

At the suggestion of one of my biggest followers, my gparents, I ventured out to find and try Home Run Inn Pizza. They proclaimed this to not only be amazing frozen pizza but, also better than any other pizza option in Bville. As luck would have it, Publix ran these on BOGOs a few weeks after the discussion. To me, frozen pizza is good in what it is. It is important to remember not to compare it to real pizza. Besides DiGornio, I pretty much like all varieties of frozen pizza. Back in my camp days, I did eat quite a bit of it. But not, with my Big Girl Job, I have swayed away from it. Well, I am here to say that Home Run Inn Pizza knows how to knock it Out of the Park.

Since this was our first time trying it, I selected the Classic Crust with just cheese as a topping. The pizza cooked up exactly as it said it would, in the given amount of time. I was shocked to see how few ingredients this stuff had. Not only that, but it was preservative free and even provided a few grams of fiber in each slice. I prefer frozen pizza to be room temperature or cold. The first time we tried this, I ate it hot. I will say that the second time we had it, I had it out of the refrigerator and I enjoyed it much, much more. Also, this was a fairly good sized frozen pizza…you indeed got your moneys worth.

The crust on this pizza is by far the most original crust I have ever had with a frozen pizza. It is not crispy and is thin but, not cracker thin. I found the flavor to be somewhat simple with a definite taste of bread to it. The sauce on the pizza was pretty good, especially compared to the sauce on many frozen pizzas. No – this sauce is not brand new and fresh but, it does carry a nice tomato flavor to it. Without a doubt, the cheese on this pizza was the strangest taste ever. I don’t even know if I will do it justice in my explanation. While the cheese was indeed cheesy, it tasted as if it had the flavor of beer infused in it. This was very noticeable on the first bite or two of the pizza, especially the first time I tried it. I found this flavor to be much more muted when the pizza was cold.

Home Run Inn Pizza is a nice option for frozen pizza. A peculiar crust, tomato sauce and beer flavored cheese, gives this thing a flavor all its own. While it is still not comparable to real pizza, I found this to be a very nice option for frozen pizza. Taylor enjoyed it as well which is quite a feat – he normally does not like frozen pizza whatsoever. I will certainly be trying and purchasing this pizza again. If you have the opportunity to try it – especially with a BOGO deal – do it. It is sure to be Out of the Park.

One of the benefits of living in Florida, is Spring Training. While the Reds no longer train in Florida, there are plenty of teams that do. Of course I do not support these teams however, I have a true love for the game of Baseball and enjoy going to as many games as possible. Our last game of the season was to see the Minnesota Twins play the <del>Miami</del>Toronto Blue Jays at Hammond Stadium in Ft. Myers. I have been to this stadium tons of times before. For this visit, I scored awesome seats right behind home plate. Before arriving, I scouted out the food options and saw they offered a good amount of variety for really good prices. Say Cheese.

After walking around the stadium, I decided on what I would try – Cheese Curds. I have read a ton about these but have never actually tried them. I was presented with a basket full of these little guys for $4.50. After arriving back to my seat, I tried my first one. The exterior was slightly crispy while the interior was melty and soft. I did not find the batter to really have too much of a flavor of its own. I did appreciate how the batter was very light and let the curd be the star. As for the curd, the biggest thing I noticed was that it was quite salty. I found the flavor to be along the lines of a good cheese but, a very salty good cheese.

Other than the salty factor, I loved these curds. Every single one was just as good as the next – no matter what the size they all had plenty of curd and the light batter. I liked how the batter provided just a bit of crispness to complement the soft factor of the cheese. While the cheese was not stringy, it was very soft and mailable. I really was digging the consistency of the cheese. In addition to the curds, I got a Killebrew Root Beer – a Minnesota specialty. Well, I’m not a huge root beer fan but jeez, this stuff was amazing. At $4 per can, this stuff was not cheap but boy of boy, was it good. The flavor was so light and simple, with not too much bite but plenty of flavor. It was simply delicious.

Hammond Stadium offers a ton of great food options. I was very satisfied with both the Cheese Curds and the Killebrew Root Beer. Even though I do not have any other curds to compare these to, I will say these were great. I figure the saltiness probably just comes with the curd itself and cannot discount this from the overall flavor. The soft chew of the cheese, paired with the slight crisp of the batter, made these things leaving me wanting to Say Cheese. Throw in a cold root beer, and this was a baseball lovers heaven.

I am a Foodie through and through. I love food. I love to eat. I love eating as much as I possibly can. I love trying different food items. I just am a Foodie. So, when I spot a new or unusual item, chances are I am buying it. My reason is always for Grandma’s Backyard but, in my heart, my reason is simple – I am a Foodie. While this is a term used far more frequently now then ever before, I have related with this term for a loooong time. Even before the Backyard, I was taking images of food…reading menus for the heck of it…and documenting everything I ate. A few weeks ago at Whole Foods, we spotted these Annie Chung’s Seaweed Snacks. Well, this was an easy purchase. Why? Because I am a Foodie.

I picked up this package of Sesame flavored Roasted Seaweed Snacks for only $1. Upon arriving home, I opened up the package to try them out. Well, the first thing I noticed was the smell. I felt like I just walked into a fish market selling nothing but smelly fish. The smell of fish that comes from this package is unbelievable. Beyond pungent. Oh my. It was strong. After getting past this, I removed one of the snacks. I found it to be pretty much paper-thin with a greasy exterior. There were some speckles of salt seen on the snacks as well. Without another thought, I placed the entire thing in my mouth and began to eat.

The consistency that I found is hard to pinpoint. In no way was this thing crispy. No, no crispness here…as you usually find with roasted items. It was similar to eating rice paper but, a little bit more crinkly. The snack started to almost melt in my mouth and form a very odd, almost gooey like, paste. This was weird. I found that chewy and swallowing the snack as quickly as possible yielded the best results. But, it also yielded a mouth full of one flavor – fish. These would certainly not have the ‘No Burpie’ label that you see on Fish Oil pills. Ohh no…Annie made these with extra burpies.

I ended up eating maybe 4 of these before I just had enough. Beyond the fishy, seaweed flavor, I could actually taste the salt of these as well. A good thing…I guess? Beyond a doubt, the consistency of these is just plain bad. Maybe if they were a little less crispy and did not form an odd goo, they would have been better. But then again, I come back to the flavors, and think probably not. I only spent a $1 on these things so I didn’t really lose anything. No, I will never ever purchase these again. Looking back, I would do it all over again. And you know why? Because I am a Foodie.
