It’s Time for a Skyline Call to the Bullpen!
I always feel as if I am up to date with my posts and then I realize I am terribly behind! I believe the biggest reason for this is the fact that I have forgotten to bring my camera multiple times when I went to eat! Eek!!! The review today will include pictures that are not mine however, the meal did look quite similar to the pictures. As everyone knows, I am a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and all of my family is from Cincinnati. I am a native Floridian, however, I have grown up spending vacations in Cincinnati and with a majority of my family still living there. I love all food Cincinnati. I am a Buckeye at heart and the combination of peanut butter and chocolate is truly divine. One of my favorite stops in Cincinnati is Skyline Chili. Skyline is The Original Cincinnati Chili. We visit Skyline every summer in Cincinnati and we are lucky enough to have a Skyline of our own in Naples!
The staple items at Skyline are Coney’s and 3-Ways. I however, opt for the Vegetarian Black Bean Burrito Deluxe. The menu description is: Skyline Black Beans and Rice in a soft tortilla, with diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce topped with more black beans and rice, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and a black olive slice. I order this each and every time I visit Skyline and have never been disappointed.
The Skyline is Naples is nothing like any of the Skyline’s I have been to in Cincinnati. The Naples Skyline is very small and the staff is questionable. The staff is all very polite however, they do have an interesting look to them. The Skyline’s in Cincinnati include staff dressed in Skyline gear and the restaurants are normally quite large. I don’t let this bother me at all since I am getting Skyline in Naples. My other favorite Cincinnati favorites, I can only visit in Cincinnati. At least Skyline I can get all year long.
When you arrive at Skyline, you first receive a bowl of Oyster Crackers. Skyline’s Crackers are not your typical in-the-box crackers. They have a very good taste and are always crunchy. You receive the taste flavor throughout the entire cracker. When at Skyline, I always order Water and Mountain Dew to drink. Skyline is one place that actually serves Mountain Dew and it is a treat for me. And, of course, I am always the one who asks for extra crackers. I normally eat around 3 bowls of crackers while I am at Skyline. Granted, the bowls are quite small.
The burrito arrives quickly and very hot. The mounds of cheese placed on all foods by Skyline are always fun to see. When we were in Skyline last summer with our cousins, my younger cousin ordered his cheese on the side. Skyline literally brought him a plate full of cheese. It was amazing. The burrito is full of the black bean and rice mixture. This mixture is totally combined and you would not even know there was rice in it. The rice is in very small pieces and the beans are somewhat ‘smashed’ up. The burrito shell around the black beans and rice is not too flavorful but does provide a good shell for the beans/rice. I can’t pick out specific flavors from the shell which is not a bad thing.

The lettuce and diced tomatoes surround the burrito on the plate. The lettuce is always plentiful and very fresh and the same goes for the tomatoes. The cheese is all over the top of the burrito along with a little bit of black beans/rice. A plop of sour cream is on top of the burrito in the center of the shell. The cheese is always so fresh and I believe the key is, it is shredded so finely. In a way, it all combines in big clumps. It is hard to describe but, it is a good thing. When I eat my burrito, I eat it with a fork and knife. I cut my pieces and then add the lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream to each bite. It combines for a glorious taste.
Visiting Skyline is one of my favorite things to do. I always order exactly the same thing and love it each and every time. The Vegetarian Black Bean Burrito Deluxe receives a 10/10 in my book for rating. I have no complaints about this burrito whatsoever and only wish I could eat it more often. I am so glad to have at least one taste of Cincinnati in Sunny ol’ Naples.
