Two More Freebies

The Holiday Drink Special Buy One Get One has come to an end at Starbucks.  But, before it did, I was able to try the two other Holiday Drinks in addition to the Peppermint that I have already reviewed.  I am happy to say that at least one of the three drinks is fairly decent and even more happy to say that I received these all in a Buy One Get One Special.  None of them are that amazing to me that I would wish to purchase them or really have them again.

On Saturday I decided to try the Gingerbread Latte.  I had to get it iced because it was too warm out and I just did not want hot coffee.  My order was for a Tall Non-Fat, No-Whip Iced Gingerbread Latte and a Tall Skinny Peppermint Mocha – for Mommy.  The bad thing about getting these drinks iced is that you get so much darn ice and end up with about 3 sips.  I received my Iced Gingerbread Latte and saw specks of cinnamon on the top of the cup.  I began to drink my beverage and was blasted with flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg.  These flavors mixed well with the latte itself and I was left with a cinnamon/nutmeg latte.  It was surprising very good.  Not overpowered like the Peppermint and not too sweet or sugary.  I don’t think I would ever beg the drink as Gingerbread but, the cinnamon/nutmeg was a nice flavor combination.  There was a bit too much milk in it for me but, that is purely just a personal preference thing.  Overall Rating:  6/10

On Sunday, my initial plan was to get a warm Gingerbread Latte so that Mommy could try some of it as well.  After running 3 errands in almost an hour (snowbirds are here), I was hot and just couldn’t do a warm drink.  I opted to go for the Caramel Brulee Latte since it was the last one I had yet to try.  Once again, I ordered this as Non-Fat, No-Whip Tall Iced Caramel Brulee Latte along with the Tall Skinny Peppermint Mocha for Mommy.  This Starbucks put so much ice in the cup that I barely got my 3 sips.  The drink was so incredibly beyond sweet and sugary, it was purely gross.  I couldn’t taste anything but fake, processed caramel.  I am really glad that I barely had any sips in this because it probably would have made me sick.  I really couldn’t believe just how sweet this was – and it wasn’t even a good sweet.  It was a fake, processed bleh sweet.  Overall Rating:  2/10

I am glad that the Buy One Get One Free Holiday Drink deal is over.  I no longer feel obligated to visit Starbucks and have a beverage I really don’t like.  Perhaps next year, they will include more drinks or bring some new ones into play.  There are so many great Christmas flavors that I’m sure new combinations can be added.  Or, at least, include the Fall Drinks in this Buy One Get One Offer.  And please Starbucks, work with your baristas to make the drinks at one Starbucks just as good as the next.
