I like any food item that is free. I have been able to try many things that I never would otherwise purely because they are free. Many of these items have become items I regularly buy but most, I am glad that I didn’t have to spend a dime on because they were simply gross. In the case of my most recent free food experience, I am glad that I didn’t buy it on my own.
Mommy brought home some cookies from Panera that she got for free at work. There was a Toffee Nut Crunch and an Oatmeal Raisin. I have purchased the Oatmeal Raisin cookie from Panera before but never the Toffee Nut Crunch. For that reason, the only free cookie I will discuss here is the Toffee Nut Crunch.
Panera has pretty good chocolate chip cookies which is normally what I get when I visit. I have never ordered the Toffee Nut Crunch cookie before and was excited to try a full one. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the cookie, is that it broke apart right away. It did not have a ‘crispy’ bottom to keep it intact. This cookie has many swirls of toffee and no apparent nuts. I actually like the fact that the nuts are so finely chopped and almost invincible. It enabled the flavor of the nuts without the normal consistency of them. I’m not really sure if I have ever had Toffee on its own but would compare it to a very sweet caramel. Perhaps not as creamy as caramel but similar in flavor. I found this entire cookie to be very, very soft and have a smooth texture. The nut flavor was there and there was a partial crunchiness but, I really didn’t see any nuts.
The base of this cookie was similar to a sugar cookie and chocolate chip cookie (minus the chips). Your basic normal cookie dough you could say. All of the flavor came from the toffee and the invisible nuts. The overall flavor of the cookie was very, very sweet. This is not a cookie that you could eat the entire thing in one sitting. A few bites here and there are more than plenty. Overall Rating: 6/10
This cookie is a quality cookie but the flavor is just not that amazing or great. There is a lot of toffee and even though it is very soft, that is not a totally bad thing. If you like toffee or caramel, you will certainly like this cookie. It’s not that the flavors aren’t good…they just simply aren’t my fancy. Now, since I got this cookie for free, I was really not too disappointed. I got to try a cookie I would otherwise never purchase and get a mouth full of sweetness.
