Nothing Beats Classic

I have never really been a big fan of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  I have always preferred the sweet factor of Reese’s Pieces much, much more.  Even with that, I do appreciate a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.  There is nothing quite like that smooth chocolate coating and creamy peanut-esq flavor.  A few weeks ago, I found Justin’s Organic Peanut Butter Cups at Target.  I said, what the heck, let’s give them a try.  After having them sit in the pantry for a week or two, it was finally time to try them out.  Let’s just say, Nothing Beats Classic.

The packaging lists these as being Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.  When I opened the package, the cups looked similar to Reese’s in size but, the color was definitely off.  I was expecting a dark color – as these were dark chocolate – however, the color was much lighter.  Almost like a gray-brown mix.  I have had lots of organic chocolate and it is typically good.  So was not the case with these.  This did not taste like dark chocolate whatsoever.  On top of that, I found the chocolate to by dry and extremely non-creamy.  There really was no flavor at all from the chocolate outside…beside dryness.

As for the Peanut Butter inside, I bit into a dry dark circle of peanut butter.  I have had Justin’s peanut butter before and find it to be quite tasty.  Well, somewhere between the peanut butter line and the peanut butter cup line, this stuff took a detour.  Dry, almost chunky in a way, this was so not satisfying.  This dry peanut butter like substance, mixed with the dry flavorless chocolate did not produce a good product.  After eating the first cup, I let the flavors sit in my mouth for a few moments.  This maybe enabled me to tell what I was eating but, did not make me want to eat any more.

I did eat the second cup and found it to be just as bad as the first.  I have had imitators of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup before and have found them all to fall short.  So is the case with Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.  Dry chocolate mixed with a funky peanut butter like substance, provides an overall product of sub par candy.  I would not purchase these ever ever again nor would I recommend these to anyone.  Even if you like Organic and enjoy Justin’s Peanut Butter, simply Nothing Beats Classic.
